I got my start while still in high school. My art instructor, Mr. Luker, instilled within me a deep appreciation of photography. Taking his insight and instruction to heart, I've been madly in love with the art ever since.
I continue to educate myself on the nuances of the digital photography world. I love being able to combine the skills I was taught in the darkroom with new digital techniques. While the principles of film photography are still just as relevant in the digital age, hours of standing in front of enlargers and chemical trays have been replaced with hours in front of the computer, navigating editing software. (I do miss the smell of the the darkroom, though!)
At the endless but cheerful persistence of family and friends, I made the moved beyond working on art and portraits as a hobby, and expanded my reach.
I established Astoria Photography with the ideals of making unique, original art and heirloom-quality portraiture available to any home, with any budget.
I work primarily in the Mason City area, but I also occasionally travel to accommodate clients for in-home or on-location sessions.
An artist at heart, I actively participate in local and national photography competitions, and was proudly involved with the Downtown Mason City Art Crawl.
